FAQs
I’ve never sung professionally or in public before. Are singing lessons right for me?
Singing requires just two things: 1) Willingness to learn and 2) the vocal instrument. Learning to sing is something anyone with these two things can do. The basics are simple, intuitive and fun to learn. I encourage anyone who enjoys music and song to give singing lessons a try. It’s a fun way to learn to express yourself, enjoy music more deeply, and explore the capabilities of your voice.
My child wants to learn to sing, but I don’t know if they have the capability. What do you recommend?
Most children have a natural understanding of music, rhythm, and pitch that can be expanded and developed with lessons. I have taught children as young as 5 and 6 to sing, and have provided music education for preschoolers as well. Music and singing can be a natural, enjoyable and easily learned skill, however in some rare cases, pitch cannot be taught or corrected and I will be sure to let you know up front if this is the case.
I used to sing, but I have not sung for a long time. Is there a course I can take to brush up?
The best way to get back to singing is to start with a course of 6-8 private vocal lessons. Often times, people learn to sing by mimicking what they hear on the radio, on YouTube or in movies. If not taught the proper techniques, it can be surprisingly easy to strain your voice or learn bad habits that can, if allowed to go unchecked, permanently damage your vocal chords. Even trained singers sometimes strain or overwork their voices and need to go on vocal rest. Booking a few private lessons is a great way to ensure that your foundational techniques are safe, correct, and helpful to you.
I’m nervous about singing in public or in front of someone, but I want to learn. What do you recommend?
The best way to conquer your nerves of singing in public is to begin learning in a safe, welcoming, and friendly environment. I’ve taught many shy students and nervous performers who have learned to conquer their nerves and have later gone on to performing arts academics, universities and to land major roles on television and in theater. I’ve taught hundreds of children and adults how to sing and seen (and heard) it all. I promise that your lessons with me will allow you a safe space to explore your vocal ability, grow your talent, and receive constructive critiques that will help you boost your confidence and become more self-assured about singing over time.
I’m a professional singer but I’m not booking work or landing auditions. Can you help?
Absolutely! I offer coaching tailored to the professional singer who is looking to improve his or her craft and become a more successful performer. I recommend my private lessons for those who want concentrated training, as well as my audition coaching service where I offer industry insight into booking work and presenting yourself in the best light for those crucial auditions.
I want to record a demo. Can you help?
Certainly! I have a lot of experience helping students prepare for and record professional demos. Get in touch and let me know what your specific needs are so I can better assist you.
I want to become a professional singer. Can you coach me?
Absolutely! Many of my students have gone on to become professional working singers and actors, landing major roles in tv, film, and in the theater. Learning to sing doesn’t take long, but learning to sing exceptionally well can take many years of patience, practice, and study. I recommend booking in for private lessons to get started.
