Karen McLain has been teaching students of all ages and experience levels to sing and perform since she first opened her vocal studio in 1993.
Karen McLain Vocal Studio now offers private voice lessons, acting lessons, demo and audition coaching and a range of interactive workshops taught by Karen in a fun, welcoming environment. She teaches students of all ages, abilities and experience levels in LA and Orange County California.
About Karen McLain
Karen is vocalist, teacher, and performer with over 26 years of experience as professional singer, and over 20 years of experience as a music, voice and social studies teacher. Since a young age, Karen has been passionate about music and theater arts, and has dedicated her life to the art of performance and teaching others.
Bio
Karen is a UCLA theater arts graduate, a credentialed teacher, and has a Master’s Degree in Education. She has taught in the public school system for ABC School District and Long Beach Unified, and has also taught for the Los Angeles Archdiocese. She has established music education and theater arts programs at multiple schools and has taught hundreds of students in the LA and Orange County area privately in her vocal studio since 1993.
With over twenty-six years as a professional singer, Karen has performed with many world-renowned musicians and singers including Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello, Oasis, Tony Orlando, Vikki Carr, Dolly Parton, and many others. She has appeared in concerts, films, television, commercials, and recordings, and worked with over one hundred different performers in venues worldwide.
Teaching Style
Karen studied voice with Neyneen Farrell Pires, a renowned vocal coach in Los Angeles, CA and early president of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Karen teaches her method of correct breathing and proper technique for optimal voice production for all genres of music and all musical styles.
Karen believes in fostering a welcoming, safe, and fun environment of learning where encouragement and constructive feedback are paramount. Her 20+ years as a teacher have meant working with students of all ages, abilities and experience levels.
